Guatemala City and Solala

The airport here is... well... different. It's called "international", but there's not much "internetional" to see. Next to the airstrip are old hangers which are kept standing with ropes and poles.

As soon as I saw Martin, I gave him his laptop "Here, I don't want to carry this any more." I was tired of bringing that heavy thing around all the time. At Oscars I went to bed quickly because at that time I was awake for over 34 hours. Too long for any normal human. Although I got some sleep on the plane, discarding the "large" man next to me.

The next day Oscar and his wife, took us to a fancy resaurant, with the best view over Guatemala City. He even drove us around a bit and showed some fine views. The first picture of a vulcano was in the pocket! After some driver, he left us at the busstation, were Martin and I took a "bus" to Solala. 135km, but 5 hours it took, there was some road work going on. I can't descripe the madness when all the buses, trucks and cars went loose as soon as the road was opened. Everybody just hit full gas, trying to get away as soon as possible. The fumes and smog I inhaled that moment was more than living 23 years in The Netherlands.

See, that is another thing here in Guatemala. Every car smokes like crazy. A non-smoking car, isn't a car (I presume). I'm not talking smoke... I'm talking SMOKE.

Here in Solala I already saw the market, supermarket and Martin showed me the best view of the lake from Solala. Next todo is Panachasel and up the volcano, which will take somewhere between 5 and 8 hours up. Another 5 down. I hope the view makes up for that.

I tried to post some pictures, but this computer didn't allowed me to upload anything. Not even the smalles 56Kib was accepted, I will try again in another internet cafe.

Wat een mooie fotos! Vulkaan lijkt veel op Mount Batur/Bali. Ook zo'n enorm kratermeer. En praktisch met die "begraaf-kastjes". Fantastische kleuren in Guatemalan

Kwantmeister the great explorer!
Nice pictures indeed. Even the graveyards look colourfull. Allthough our modest Panningen looks a bit more photogenic as usual since it's freezing like mad here. Would like to go outside and shoot some pics but I have the griep. Bummer.
