Carribean and Peten

Conclusion of previous part.

My bus drove off, that doesn't mean there aren't any other buses. There are tons of buses going in the same direction. I just took another bus and since I payed for a second-class bus, the first one was busy and hot. Suddenly I was in this luxurious airconditioned, television having, first-class bus. And even better was that I arrived before my actual bus was in Puerto Barrios, because this one, was more direct. It didn't matter because the driver already called the other bus, to make sure my stuff was safe. All I basicely had todo is wait for 10 mintues. My bus came and I got my stuff back. Everybody was laughing because they noticed I wasn't there. Some people on the bus took care of my stuff, people are very friendly here.

I enter the Carribean. How about that! The Carribean! I'm in Guatemala for 2 weeks and didn't see a drop of rain. I enter the Carribean and it starts raining!

So I decided to continue directly to Livingstone. A taxi driver says that because of the rain, the boats don't go, and wants to take me to a hostel. Yeah right. Not all the people are friendly and are just there to get your money into their pocket. I take the boat to Livingstone (which ofcouse did go).

I check into Rios Tropicales, put my stuff on the bed. BHAM the power shuts down. All of Livingstone is covered in darkness. How about that for a day of travelling.

In Livingstone self, theirs not much todo, I end up walking to Siete Altares, which means as much as Seven Waterfalls. It's supposed to be dry, but because of all the rain, I'm "lucky" and see the thing in action.

From Livingstone a boat trip over Lake Izabel to Rio Dolce. I directly continue with a bus to Finca Pareiso. Turns out a very wise decision because I meet a group of other tourist, with whom I end up traveling for 3 days. The Fince (farm) is a hot spring waterfall. I have never been to a hot spring, but this is beautifull. The water comes out of the ground 60 degrees, turns into this small waterfall, which becomes a pool of 30-45 degrees, depending on how far away from the waterfall you are. It is soo hot, that you really have to adjust to sitting there relaxing. Everybody enjoys it, we end up being there for 2 hours, just swimming in this natural pool of water. And that for 10 Q.

The 6 of us, missed the last bus, so I opt to hitchhike back to Rio Dolce. I jump in front of a big SUV, with one guy in it and he brings us as far as we need togo for free. It's faster, it's better and it's no paying for a dull bus ride. The guy was looking for a place to stay, so he comes with the rest of us to the same hostel, where we have a family style dinner.

The bus trip to Flores is hot, and after 1.5 hour I am glad I can finaly sit down. Yeah buses a cramped here. Another 3 hours later, I am standing in front of "Los Amigos" dutch-owned hostel in Flores. This is one awesome place to spend 2 nights. Cheap and good.

Then comes the day I visit Tikal. It's also the first day it stops raining. All this time I have been walking through the rain, and hoping it doesn't rain while I'm in Tikal. I'm guess I got lucky, because that noon the sky is clearer for the first time in 5 days. Tikal is big. Very big. I actually walked for 7 hours around and didn't see a single thing more than once. Temple 4 is the highest and I have a magnifcient view over the forest. Check the pictures, because they sey more than I can descripe.

This is my last day in Flores and today I probably leave for Coban. More great places to see, to visit, to explorer.
