Boring Coban to exciting El Retiro
Coban is nothing more than a bus stop, for backpackers that is. Zero to do and the hostels are even less fun. Walking around in Coban with my backpack at night, I found a hotel. It was clean, it was a good bed, but not a good stay at all.
Two types of hostels exist. The first one is where you get a bed, a room, blankets and sheets. But that is about it. You just stay there for the night, the rest you have to figure out yourself. Type two is founded by some foreigner, who traveled himself around the world some years. You could stay inside the hostel complex forever, because practicaly everything is available. At least a bar, food (breakfast, lunch, dinner), small dorm rooms, book shelfs, tv and internet. You are allowed to bring your own food and drinks, we are backpackers remember, you have to save money somehow. Those hostels are the place to be. It is just bad for you bankaccount, but the fun you have is worth it.
Coban only has type 1 hostels, while where I am staying right know is of the latter one. This "El Retiro" is a must visit, and my stay was awesome here.
hostel mamma is also a good one!
