1884

A magazine called "Restaurant" produces a list of the 50 best restaurants in the world. In 2002 "1884" was on the 7th place, so when I heard this I stopped eating in restaurants for 2 weeks. Buenos Aires has nice restaurants, didn´t try any of them. Mendoza has nice activities, didn´t do any of those.

Yesterday I gathered 5 other people in the hostel, and told them about the restaurant. Some guy was having his last night of travel, so he did want to come for sure. I made a reservation and a little over half past 10 we were standing in front of the entrance.

The security guy looks a bit surprised, who walks to this restaurant? Well poor backpackers do. We dressed up as nice as we could, made sure everybody was wearing long pants, and no flip flops (sandals). Entering the restaurant, you start thinking "do I have enough money?"

The starter was nice, carefully each part planted on the plate. The "Pear, Bufello mozzarella with Ham" looks and tastes very good. The wine menu is 36 pages long, so I didn´t feel the need to make a choice, someone else did. The main dish was lamb with potatoes, finishing the dinner with burned fruit and ice cream.

One nice think is that the personnel doesn´t leave bottles on the table. They have a separate table in the middle of the room, were they put all the bottles and cans, they remember who is drinking what, and fill your glass up in time.

The bill was a bit more steep than the local Mac Donald's, but it was well worth it. Should I do it again tonight?

Durf je er niet bij te zetten hoeveel het je gekost heeft?? Ik weet niet hoe de rest erover denkt: maar ik wil het wel weten!

Ben benieuwd of je nog een keer bent gegaan..

It was 160 pesos, 34 euro. Doesn´t look expensive, but you can have a double big hotdog, with a halve liter of coke for 10 pesos, so calculate my loss...
